A Counselor’s Reflection on Summer 2022

October 21, 2022 07:25 PM

Jacky Leigh was a first-year counselor this summer. She was previously a camper for many years and CIT. Below she writes about her experience this summer!

“My summer on staff at Camp Tockwogh was one that I wouldn’t trade for the world. Since I was a Pawnee at 8 years old, I knew I wanted to be a staff member. This summer I was lucky enough to be a first-year staff.

I spent my summer as a cabin counselor with the youngest set of girl campers, The Pawnees. There was never a dull moment with these girls. From water balloon fights, to who can eat the most grilled cheese, we were always laughing together. In between all the laughter, I hope that I was able to be the kind of counselor I had as a camper. A counselor who made sure they had the best two weeks of their lives and someone who cared about them. I saw firsthand how simply asking how a camper is doing could change their whole day.

I could not recommend Camp Tockwogh enough. It is my second home. The environment radiates happiness and is a place where everyone is truly welcome. I learned how to be the best version of myself and how to help others become the best version of themselves. This is made possible through Camp Tockwogh’s welcoming nature. Looking back on my summer, all of my memories are happy ones. I see myself laughing with my campers, waterskiing with my friends, and overall having fun. I made friendships that will last a lifetime and memories that I will never forget.”

We are so glad that Jacky has such an impactful summer, and we look forward to having her back as staff next year!
